November 1, 2020

[Houston, TX, August 5, 2020] i2k Connect Inc., a global leader in artificial intelligence software, is pleased to announce that it has officially joined The Open Group Open Subsurface Data Universe™ (OSDU) Forum. The Open Group is leading the development of open, vendor-neutral technology standards and certifications. The OSDU Forum focuses on developing a standard data platform for the energy industry bringing together subsurface exploration, development, and well data.

“We welcome i2k Connect to OSDU and are looking forward to the contribution that its people, software, and leadership in artificial intelligence will bring to our energy community,” said Jim Hietala, Vice President, Security and Business Development, The Open Group. “The company’s membership is particularly relevant as data’s importance continues to increase, and i2k Connect’s leadership in creating value from semi-structured and unstructured data will both help the energy industry accelerate the deployment of digital solutions and make sense of the data we collect.”

According to The Open Group, the Forum developed the OSDU data platform to enable secure, reliable, global, and performant access to all energy-related data. The premise behind its development is to assist the energy industry at large to reduce current data silos and enable transformational workflows within the subsurface community. With an open, standard-based ecosystem focused on innovation, the ultimate goal is to aid partners through collaboration to deliver new capabilities and reduce implementation and lifecycle costs.

i2k Connect’s membership in OSDU will provide the company with early access to the latest information and developments relating to open standards and best practices, within the energy community. Other important Members of OSDU include Schlumberger, with which i2k Connect has collaborated through the integration of artificial intelligence and auto-classification capabilities into the DELFI* cognitive E&P environment.

“Membership is important because OSDU is laying the next-generation foundation for openness and interoperability in E&P,” said Eric Schoen, Chief Technology Officer, i2k Connect. “OSDU will enable new workflows by combining data in novel ways. Consequently, it will demand new tools to find and understand data and knowledge used and produced by these workflows. We look forward to meeting this demand by integrating the i2k Connect AI Platform’s content enrichment services into OSDU.”
