Partnership enables geoscientists to access a wealth of searchable materials spanning multiple disciplines.

HOUSTON, TX [February 26, 2024] — i2k Connect announces an exciting collaboration between the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). SEG has joined forces with SPE and i2k Connect to develop a robust research portal that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

This cutting-edge AI system combines domain-specific expert knowledge with ML algorithms to derive precise, accurate, and consistent information from a wide range of valuable resources. Through this collaboration, geoscientists have convenient access to a wealth of searchable materials spanning various disciplines, including petroleum engineering, geophysics, and geology.

The innovative system allows geoscientists to explore the wealth of content that SPE and SEG offer in a single, unified platform. They will no longer need to individually search through different sources—OnePetro, PetroWiki, JPT, SPE journals, Energy Stream, SEG Library, SEG Wiki, and both SPE and SEG websites—which translates into significant savings in time and effort when using the new, integrated research portal.

One of the most remarkable features of the system is its customizable filtering options that give users the power to refine a search by various criteria, including source, subject, location, formation, timeframe, concept, and more. This comprehensive filtering capability means users can find very precise information tailored to unique research requirements.

Eric Schoen, Chief Technology Officer at i2k, says, “Through this collaboration, oil industry scientists now have deep domain access to curated materials spanning various disciplines and industries. The combination of AI and ML algorithms supports refined content and graphic filtering, enabling users to derive information from the combined perspectives of geophysics, geology, and petroleum engineering. Users can plot, analyze, and filter search results according to their requirements. It’s a time-saving game-changer when it comes to locating precise information tailored to any interest or research area.”
